NBA, union to continue talks Wednesday (AP)

Derek Fisher fears the NBA season won't start on time after the latest setback in labor negotiations.

Negotiators for the NBA and its players have met for about two hours and will talk again Wednesday. Both sides said the shortness of Tuesday's meeting is not cause for concern nor optimism but that they needed time to think about what had been discussed. Commissioner David Stern hints that Wednesday's session will determine when more discussions are warranted.

Saints honor ALS-stricken Gleason, mail

What a strange game Monday night. How does a team win a game against an unbeaten foe when the team scores no touchdowns, fumbles six times and relies on a neophyte kicker who shanked a 21-yarder a couple of weeks earlier? That's why they play the games, I guess. Dan Bailey's six field goals beat Washington 18-16. (Wonder if that's the first 18-16 score in NFL history?) The takeaway, for me, is that the Cowboys have taken to Rob Ryan's defense well, and as the season goes on, I think the duo of Demarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer is going to wreak as much havoc as any pass-rush combination in the NFL.
